Spot the Duplicate

One name is on each list twice. Sometimes it’s an exact copy; sometimes it’s in disguise.

How to play

Each round shows eight names. One person or company is there twice. Tap either copy; the game lights up the pair and says what was different. Your streak counts right answers in a row, and your best is remembered in this browser.

The disguises

  • An exact copy: the easy one.
  • Different capitals: “Ann Lopez” and “ANN LOPEZ”.
  • Last name first: “Ann Lopez” and “Lopez, Ann”.
  • A typo: “Kate Thompson” and “Kate Thomson”.
  • Company endings: “Northwind” and “Northwind Inc.”

Real lists are full of these, and they’re what makes a mailing list send two letters to one person. Remove Duplicates catches exact copies (and different capitals, with one tick), and Find Near Matches catches the rest.
