Split a List into Parts

Breaks a long list into smaller batches, in the same order, each with its own Copy button: for mailing tools with a sending limit, uploads with a row limit, or sharing out work.

Two ways to split

  • Items per part: every part has that many items, except the last, which gets whatever is left. 2,600 addresses in parts of 500 makes five parts of 500 and one of 100.
  • Number of parts: the list is shared out as evenly as possible. 8 items in 3 parts makes parts of 3, 3 and 2.

Either way the items stay in their original order, and your list itself isn’t changed. Each card shows which items it holds (for example items 501–1000).

Batches for email and uploads

Many email programs and mailing services limit how many recipients one message can have, and many upload forms limit how many rows they accept. Choose Comma + space (Gmail and most others) or Semicolon + space (Outlook) to paste a part straight into the “To” or “Bcc” field. After you copy a part, its button changes to Copied ✓ and the card is outlined in green, so you can see which batches you’ve already used.

Please only email people who have agreed to hear from you.

Other uses

  • Sharing a call list, a reading list or chores between several people
  • Breaking a long list of search terms or URLs into pieces a tool will accept
  • Printing a long list in sections

To share people out at random instead of in order, use the Random team generator.

Questions

Can I split a comma-separated list?

Yes. How your list is separated is detected automatically, and you can change it under “Items are separated by”. Choose how each part should be separated separately.

Is there a size limit?

Only your browser’s memory. Lists of tens of thousands of lines split instantly, and nothing is uploaded.
