Ideas

  • Pick a winner: paste the entrants, shuffle, and take the first name.
  • Presentation or turn order: shuffle, then press Number them.
  • Quiz questions or flashcards: shuffle so nobody can memorize the order.
  • Secret Santa: shuffle the names; each person buys for the next name down, and the last buys for the first.

Is it really random?

It uses the Fisher–Yates shuffle, the standard method in which every possible order is equally likely. Duplicates are kept, so remove them first with Remove duplicates if each name should only appear once.

Questions

Can I split a list into random teams?

Shuffle, then cut the list into groups from the top. For two teams, take the first half and the second half.

Is the shuffle recorded anywhere?

No. It happens in your browser, so nobody, including us, can see or influence the result.
