Number a List

Adds 1, 2, 3… or A, B, C… to every item. Choose what goes between the number and the item.

Options

  • Between label and item is what goes between the number and the text: . gives “1. Item”, ) gives “1) Item”, and a tab lines everything up in a spreadsheet.
  • Start at continues numbering from where a previous list left off.
  • Letters continue past Z like spreadsheet columns: Y, Z, AA, AB…

Remove numbers deletes everything up to the first “Between” text on each line, which undoes numbering added with the same setting.

Want the numbers in a random order? Shuffle the list first, then number it.

Can I add bullet points instead of numbers?

Yes, use Add a prefix or suffix with “• ” or “- ”.

Do blank lines get a number?

No. Blank lines are removed first so the numbering has no gaps.
