Remove Text Before or After a Character

Cuts every line at the text you choose and keeps only one side. The cut text is removed too.

How it works

  1. Type the text to cut at in the box: a character like @, : or -, or a whole word.
  2. Delete before it removes everything up to and including the first match.
  3. Delete after it removes the first match and everything after it.

Lines that don’t contain the text are left unchanged. Only the first match on each line is used, so “a:b:c” cut before “:” gives “b:c”.

Include spaces if you don’t want them left behind: cutting at : (colon and space) gives cleaner results than : alone.

Questions

Can I keep the character I cut at?

Not directly. Cut first, then add it back with Add a prefix or suffix.

Can I cut at a tab, to keep one column of a spreadsheet?

Yes: copy a tab from your spreadsheet paste and paste it into the box. For removing a column it’s often easier to delete it in the spreadsheet itself.
